This course prepares participants to function as part of a Company Emergency Response Team (CERT) to effectively respond to fire and hazardous material (Hazmat) emergencies. It covers essential skills such as preparing for emergencies, fire containment, Hazmat management, and assisting in search and rescue operations. Completing this course ensures compliance with National CERT standards for industrial premises handling 5 or more metric tons of petroleum and flammable materials.

Before beginning this course, it’s essential to have the following:
We assume learners have completed safety training related to a process plant, have training in using breathing apparatus (BA), search and rescue, casualty handling, and fire command and control systems. Learners are also expected to have relevant training or work experience in a process plant and possess the ability to listen, read, and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to ES Workplace literacy and numeracy level 6.

The target audience includes the Emergency Response Team of premises storing 5 or more metric tons of petroleum and flammable materials. This course is designed for the Company Emergency Response Team (CERT), Fire Safety Officers, and staff who are the first responders to fire-fighting and hazardous materials emergencies in industrial premises. Successfully completing the course enables the CERT to meet the National CERT standard requirements.
Participants can earn 30 FSM points and 20 SDU points (valid from 1 Jul 2024 to 31 Dec 2024). WSHOs can claim SDU points only once per course; points cannot be claimed for repeat or refresher courses.
