Confined Space Rescue and Emergency Response

Course Overview

The Confined Space Rescue Course equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills to respond to confined space emergencies. 

Course Outcomes

By the end of this confined space rescue course, you’ll be equipped to:

  • Mount a successful rescue of any person who might have succumb to atmospheric or non-atmospheric hazards while performing work in a confined space.

Prerequisites:

Before beginning this course, it’s essential to have the following:

  • Learners must be at least 18 years of age and currently employed in a supervisory role (e.g., Team Lead, Foreman, or Site Supervisor) at their workplace.
  • Have a solid foundational knowledge of the relevant sector and specific site operations.
  • Be able to listen and speak English at a proficiency level equivalent to the Employability Skills (ES) level 3 to 4 (Functional workplace communication).
  • Be able to read and write English at a proficiency level equivalent to ES level 3 to 4 (Capable of completing incident reports and reading work orders).
  • Be able to manipulate numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to ES level 3 to 4 (Basic scheduling, resource counting, and safety distance calculations).
  • Be medically fit to supervise activities in their specific work environment (e.g., fit for work at height or in confined spaces).

Learning Units:

  • Confined space fundamentals, related hazards, legal framework, and confined space team roles.
  • Confined space rescue planning, rescue principles, rescue team roles, and rescue equipment.
  • Core rescue techniques, emergency rescue procedures, rescue communication, and common rescue mistakes.
  • Scenario-based rescue drills for confined space emergency situations.
  • Practical rescue demonstrations, including rescue harness donning, SCBA use, non-entry rescue, and victim packaging using a Sked stretcher.

Certifications Granted:

E-Certificates of Attendance with SDU Points (by AKC) will be conferred on candidates upon completion

Additional Details:

4 SDU Points applicable (Validity Period for SDU points – 01 Jul 2026 – 31 Dec 2026). WSHO can claim SDU points once only, for a course. The SDU points could not be claimed for a repeat or refresher course.

Participants are advised to read the below course materials prior to the course and bring along the copy to the class in order to better understand the topics and perform well in the course.
