Course Overview

This 2-day course, Communication Essentials in Today’s Workplace: Building Stronger Teams, is designed to help you become a more effective and persuasive communicator — whether you’re interacting with colleagues, customers, or supervisors.

Through hands-on activities, real-life scenarios, and guided role plays, you’ll explore how communication works, what gets in the way, and how to deliver your message clearly across different platforms — face-to-face, written, or digital.

Course Outcomes

    Understand the purpose of communication and how to craft clear, outcome-driven messages Identify common barriers (e.g., noise, assumptions) and how to overcome them

    Choose the right channel (face-to-face, email, chat) for different situations Understand the difference between public and confidential information, and when to use tools like NDAs
  3. Verbal and Non-Verbal Skills
    Use effective tone, body language, and speech techniques (e.g., Mehrabian’s theory) Communicate clearly using simple, precise, and appropriate words
  4. Listening and Emotional Intelligence
    Listen actively and use emotional awareness to connect with others Pick up on emotional cues and respond appropriately, even in high-pressure situations
  5. Questioning for Clarity
    Use different types of questions (open, closed, probing) to avoid misunderstandings and get better responses

Prerequisites

Learners should be:

  • No prior communication training required
  • basic English literacy and digital familiarity are sufficient

Certifications Granted

Class Size and Facilitator-Learner Ratio

  • Lesson: Maximum of 20 trainees per trainer

Target Audience:

The course is suitable for individuals in supervisory roles who need to manage teams and customer interactions, such as:

  • Call centre supervisors
  • Crew, section, or team leaders
  • Assistant store managers
  • No prior sectoral experience or knowledge required
  • Min 18 years old
  • Able to read, write and speak in English (WLPN Level 3 and above)

Assessment Format & Duration

  • 1 Trainer : 20 Learner
  • Written Examination – 60 minutes
  • Oral Questionings – 20 minutes

Passing Criteria

  • Learners are required to achieve a 100% score for the assessment (Written and Oral) in order to attain a “Competent” grade.
  • In addition, 100% attendance is mandatory to complete the course.

Learners are eligible for SSG training grants only if they pass the course. Those who fail the assessment will not qualify for course funding.
