Course Overview

Problem-solving Essentials in Today’s Workplace: Overcoming Challenges Together is a 2-day practical soft skills course designed to help individuals navigate challenges confidently and constructively in the workplace. In today’s fast-paced work environments, problems can arise at any moment — from operational inefficiencies to communication breakdowns and customer complaints. This course equips learners with a step-by-step problem-solving approach that is structured, evidence-based, and workplace-relevant.

Learners will learn how to:

  1. Identify and define problems using questioning and analysis techniques
  2. Generate and evaluate solutions using tools such as the CAPA model, Force Field Analysis (FFA), and workplace experiments
  3. Implement and monitor solutions through stakeholder communication, testing, and feedback collection
  4. Assess the impact of solutions using defined metrics and improvement indicators

Throughout the course, learners will engage in realistic workplace scenarios, team-based case studies, and hands-on activities to practice and internalize their skills. They will develop both individual confidence and the collaborative mindset needed to solve problems effectively across various roles and sectors. This course develops workplace problem-solving capability integrated with relationship management — essential for roles that require interaction, decision-making, and team collaboration. Aligned to RET-CEX-3004-1.1, it meets future economy needs by combining emotional intelligence and structured thinking, preparing learners to solve real workplace challenges.

Course Outcomes

This course will equip you with the skillsets to identify, Define and respond to Workplace Problems. This includes:

  1. Recognize common types of workplace problems and their root causes
  2. Use questioning techniques (e.g., open, probing, STAR) to clarify issues
  3. Formulate clear and accurate problem statements Generate Practical and Creative Solutions
  4. Identify the decisions required to address problems
  5. Suggest corrective and preventive actions using tools like the CAPA model
  6. Use structured techniques (e.g., Force Field Analysis) to develop and evaluate options
  7. Match the right tools to specific types of problems Test and Implement Solutions Effectively
  8. Conduct workplace experiments or pilot tests to validate ideas

Prerequisites

Learners should be:

  • No prior communication training required
  • basic English literacy and digital familiarity are sufficient

Certifications Granted

(SOA) Statement of Attainment (e-certificate) will be issued for the course

Assessment Format & Duration

  • 1 Trainer : 20 Learner
  • Written Examination – 60 minutes
  • Oral Questionings – 20 minutes

Passing Criteria

  • Learners are required to achieve a 100% score for the assessment (Written and Oral) in order to attain a “Competent” grade.
  • In addition, 100% attendance is mandatory to complete the course.

Learners are eligible for SSG training grants only if they pass the course. Those who fail the assessment will not qualify for course funding.
