How Long is the Food Safety Course Level 3 Valid For?

WSQ FSC Level 3 is a one-time certification.

Who must attain WSQ FSC Level 3 certification in Singapore?

All Food Hygiene Officers (FHOs), whether working in retail or non-retail food establishments licensed by SFA, must attain WSQ FSC Level 3.

How long is the Food Safety Course Level 3?

The duration of the Food Safety Course Level 3 (FSC L3) is as follows:

  • FSC L3: 19 hours of training + 2 hours of assessment

Must I take Food Safety Course Level 1 before taking Food Safety Course Level 3?

It is not a prerequisite to attain competency in Food Safety Course Level 1 before attending Food Safety Course Level 3. However, FHOs are still required to attend FSC L1/L2 (Refresher) 5 years after passing FSC Level 3 if their work involves food handling, and complete subsequent refresher trainings if their work continues to involve food handling

Course Overview

Food Safety Course Level 3, also formally known as WSQ Conduct Food & Beverage Hygiene Audit Course, is a 3-day course. It provides Food Hygiene Officers (FHO), food safety supervisors and managers with in-depth knowledge and practical skills to implement and maintain a Food Safety Management System (FSMS) aligned with Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and HACCP requirements. Extended over three days, the course provides more case discussions, practical simulations, and guided FSMS plan development.

While the course is open to anyone, including non-Singaporeans, only Singaporeans and Permanent Residents are eligible for course funding.

WSQ FSC Level 3 is a one-time certification.
FHOs who also perform the activities of a food handler are required to attain the WSQ FSC Level 1 or WSQ FSC Level 2 within 5 years of passing the WSQ Level 3.

Course Outcomes

Learning Objectives

  1. Food safety practices and regulatory requirements
  2. Types of prerequisite programmes.
  3. Types of workflows and zoning methods to prevent cross-contamination.
  4. Food safety and hygiene inspection policies, procedures and work instructions.
  5. Methods used to conduct inspection/check on pre-requisite programmes, food safety and hygiene standards for the entire premises.
  6. Food safety and hygiene lapses and corrective actions.
  7. Concepts and principles of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP).

Prerequisites:

Before beginning this course, it’s essential to have the following:

  • Dress Code:
    • Appropriate Attire
      • No slippers
      • Long hair must be tied up
      • No nail polish

Participants should also have the ability to converse, read & write in English/Chinese, depending on the language they registered for.

Certifications Granted:

WSQ (SOA) Statement of Attainment (e-certificate) will be issued for the courses conducted in English & Mandarin.

Class Size and Facilitator-Learner Ratio

  • Theory Session: Maximum of 20 trainees per trainer.
  • Practical Session: 5 trainees to 1 trainer, ensuring hands-on guidance and personalized support.

Assessment Format & Duration

  • Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ): 20 minutes
  • Practical Assessment (Video): 40 minutes
  • Practical Assessment (On-site): 60 minutes
  • Total Duration: 2 hours 

Passing Criteria

  • Learners are required to achieve a 100% score for the assessment (Written and Practical) in order to attain a “Competent” grade.
  • In addition, 100% attendance is mandatory to complete the course.

Learners are eligible for SSG training grants only if they pass the course. Those who fail the assessment will not qualify for course funding. Candidates are encouraged to assess their capability in food safety practices before registering
